Why I joined AttackIQ: Compelling Mission, Amazing Team

Switch jobs during a pandemic and you are certain to raise eyebrows and questions. “Are you sure now is a good time to make a move?” “Why not ‘shelter in place’ where you are?”

If you’re a mission-focused person and you find a company in which you believe, now is a great time to make a move especially to a company that aims to de-risk a risky world.

Being a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is a tough job, and it is even more challenging in today’s threat and business environment. Organizational boundaries have shattered in record time: protecting your company isn’t just about securing data centers, branch offices and endpoints. It’s about protecting hundreds--and even thousands--of users from cyberattacks. 

How do CISOs know if their security controls are working? How do they surface insights to prioritize and close gaps? How do they gain the investment transparency needed to optimize people and technologies in this new business climate? After more than 20 years in marketing leadership roles in technology, I wanted to take a step further into security to help solve some of the complex challenges organizations and leaders face in protecting our world.

This is what excites me about AttackIQ. We are leading the emerging market of breach and attack simulation and shaping the way organizations validate and improve their cybersecurity controls. We live in a vulnerable world, and while cybersecurity investments have picked up significantly in recent years, organizations need to be able to prove that their teams and technologies work effectively. That’s a compelling mission.

It is also exciting to join a company backed by deep analytical work. Our threat-informed defense platform operationalizes the MITRE ATT&CK framework, allowing customers to easily emulate adversary behaviors against their defenses. We help CISOs make smarter decisions about which gaps to close, which tools to buy, and which operational challenges to address as part of their risk management strategy. That’s an exciting proposition. 

But more than the innovative technology, I was excited by the team. AttackIQ takes a practitioner approach in its go-to-market strategy. Many of our engineers, customer success managers and sales teams hold real-world expertise in running military cyberdefense teams and security operations centers. That shapes our company’s mission, focus, and ethos on helping the public good. 

Of course I would join such a firm right now. I’m thrilled to be a part of this passionate organization, and to do whatever I can to improve our cybersecurity posture and make the world a safer place.

Julie serves on the board of advisors for Workforce Opportunity Services, and is an active speaker at women’s leadership and technology events.
