Former CTO for the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Joins Leader in Security Validation
SAN DIEGO, February 28, 2019 — AttackIQ™, a leader in the emerging market of continuous security validation, today announced the addition of David Mihelcic to its Advisory Board. Mihelcic has held senior leadership positions with DISA, the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Navy and Juniper Networks. As the newest member of the AttackIQ Advisory Board, he will serve as a critical resource to the strategy and execution of AttackIQ’s Federal business unit.
“Many security solutions currently on the market are based solely on compliance determinations,” said Mihelcic. “AttackIQ has a particularly interesting approach to solving security issues that leverages existing attack patterns and methods to exercise whether an organization’s security infrastructure is effective at preventing real-world attacks.”
Mihelcic previously held positions as the Federal Chief Technology and Strategy Officer for Juniper Networks, supporting the company’s design and sale of automated, scalable and secure networking solutions that met government customer expectations, satisfied technical certification requirements, and supported global government missions. He joined Juniper Networks following 18 years with DISA, where he retired as CTO, a position he held for more than 12 years.
As the CTO, Mihelcic was responsible for all technology matters within DISA in its role as the primary IT and cybersecurity provider for the DoD. He was charged with developing and implementing communications, computing, and cybersecurity solutions for the DoD’s most critical problems, as well as leading and managing the agency’s large and diverse technical workforce of over 900 engineers and scientists. Mihelcic served as the senior representative on engineering matters to industry, U.S. combatant commanders, military services, defense agencies, and the Intelligence Community.

Mihelcic is a pioneer of the Navy’s cybersecurity program, working for 14 years as an Information Assurance Engineer and Section Head for the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. He is also a graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
